There is nothing that can describe in detail the peace that surrounds you as you enter the Tamaya Hyatt on the Santa Ana Pueblo Indian Reservation.  The cottonwoods and blue/purple mountains set in the distance.  The relaxing Native flute music softly floating throughout the hotel invokes the soulful deep feeling of homecoming as you inhale the cedar burning throughout the day.  A wonderful setting as conference participants arrived for the NABA’s 4th Annual Conference. This year we made it a point to include the spouses for the conference.  We included: craft classes’, native art recognition, a walking tour of the area and a chance to make an adobe brick, a work of art that has been done for hundreds of years by the Pueblo Indians.  The overall program provided a cultural education as well as a lot of fun for those who participated in the activities.

Conference participants were treated to a Native Breakfast of freshly warm bread right out of the outside Hurana ovens served by Pueblo women.  What a wonderful way to start our Tuesday networking session!  What followed was an evening to remember at the Tamaya Hyatt outside Amphitheater.  As the sun was setting in the distance and the mountaintops glowed as the evening drew upon us, we were honored by the local Pueblo Indians with a Corn Dance and their musicians who eloquently played their drums until our hearts were simultaneously beating as one.

As the evening continued with the Gala Dinner, conference participants were serenaded by Native flute music throughout their dinner.  The inspirational words of Dave Anderson, the presentation of awards and the excitement that lingered throughout the atmosphere concluded with conference participants being presented with corn necklaces from local Pueblo Indians dressed in full regalia.  On a personal note, I would personal like to thank everyone that participated in the cultural program which includes the artist, dancers, musicians and crafts persons.(Chi Mii gwetch)
